Amongst the many valuable lessons learnt by the service psychiatrist during those war years, perhaps the two hardest for him to accept were the dangers of "over-selling" psychiatry; and his role with, and responsibility towards, not only his patient but also the community of which the patient, and the psychiatrist, form part.
